featured on Dateline NBC!
Washington, DC August 1998 -- Prospect Technologies announced today that one of its Web sites
and information contained therein, will be featured on Dateline NBC.
The US Coast Guard Office of Boating Safety Web site and all of its
extensive information on safe boating and in particular, life jackets -- or more properly, Personal Floatation
Devices [ PFDs] -- will be featured in a story to be aired in early September.
This article entitled: "How can you tell if you're choosing the right kind of life vest?" will run as a feature
preparing viewers for the large amount of recreational boating during the Labor Day Holiday Weekend -- Sept. 5 - 7, 1998.
This story and its companion article will be aired on NBC News and seen on the MSNBC Web site.
The article begins:
WE'VE ALL HEARD the saying "what you don't
know can't hurt you." But when it comes to life vests, what
you don't know can hurt you, maybe even kill you.
"Dateline NBC" has discovered boaters all across the
country are not getting the information they need about the
life vests they are wearing and they are putting themselves at
risk by using those vests in sea conditions the vests can't
handle. We've learned the Coast Guard stamp of approval
on those vests may just be giving consumers a false sense of
security.
The article goes on to describe the "approved versions" of PFDs and directs viewers to the Office of Boating Safety Web site.
