Washington, DC - Woodrow Wilson House, a National Trust Historic Site and Washington’s only Presidential Museum announces the release of a new and innovative Web site www.woodrowwilsonhouse.org on the anniversary of President Woodrow Wilson’s last National Address which was broadcast by radio from his last home on November 10, 1923. It was the first remote location broadcast in history.
"This new Web site represents a quantum leap over the previous Site", said Frank J. Aucella, Executive Director of the Woodrow Wilson House. "After nearly twelve months in development by Prospect Technologies, the new site contains several advanced and sophisticated technological features designed to support the Wilson House staff and offer a superior tour experience giving visitors, teachers, students and those seeking information on Woodrow Wilson a unique way to experience history through the daily life of our 28th president.”
Using an interactive timeline, free study guides and teaching work plans, and an open dialog reservation system, the Wilson House will provide the visitor with a broad range of educational opportunities and providing a chance to explore beyond the limitations of the traditional historic house tour.
Specifically, some of these features include:
The interactive “JR Bolling’s Daybook” – The WWH is fortunate to have the day-book or daily log of Wilson’s longtime secretary J. R. Bolling. The contents of this day-book and other materials –- spanning Wilson’s life from 1856 through his death in 1924 -- have been placed on-line and can be searched via date as well as subject. Visitors to the site may enter a specific date in history to see what Wilson was doing, or search for information on a keyword or name. All returned items link to additional biographical and photographic material for those who want to explore further. And for the true scholar, a detailed, annotated bibliography provides suggestions for further reading in many related subjects.
A special section for students and educators – The Wilson House is committed to furthering through tours and study materials the study of Woodrow Wilson as an Educator, US President and World Statesman and his legacy in the world today. Its free study guides may be down-loaded and extensive links and bibliographical materials are available.
Advance Reservation System - In addition, private tours of Wilson House can not only be reserved via the Web, but they can now be tailored to meet the interests of the visitor or school curriculum based upon the Web based information / reservation form. The new reservation system will allow visitors to reserve a private and personalized tour assuring an exceptional tour experience tailored to their individual interests and expectations. Upon arrival at Wilson House the Museum Guide will have the tailored tour ready to present to the individual visitors specifications.
An extensive Content Management System (CMS) – A CMS developed by Prospect Technologies allows Wilson House staff to modify and update materials and information on the Web site without the sophisticated knowledge of computer programming or HTML. This includes upcoming events, news, exhibitions, as well as items to be purchased via the on-line museum shop.
Extensive use of the latest e-business techniques – Not only can visitors become members and pay for membership online, the Woodrow Wilson House Web site now contains an extensive on-line museum shop. Using a shopping cart, visitors can purchase various Wilson related items and pay for these purchase using requisite security and encryption to protect the purchaser’s identity. In addition, using the CMS system mentioned above, the Wilson House staff can add and modify items for sale … all without the need for highly trained Webmasters or programmers.
Future expansion of the site is planned to facilitate access to research resources and to the Wilson House collection of over 8000 objects as well as virtual tours.
